Rewe’s domestic electronics superstore business ProMarkt is scaling down its store network.
The retailer plans to cut store numbers from 68 to 55. ProMarkt is struggling to keep up with independent specialist competitors. It is widely believed the business, which has focused on secondary locations with sales areas of about 16,150 sq ft, in contrast with competitor Metro Group’s larger Media-Saturn stores, has not performed as expected.
In addition, the online store MyBy, acquired in 2010 and integrated into Promarkt.de, has not fulfilled expectations.
