JD Sports is an English sports and outdoor wear retailer, founded in 1981, based in Lancashire. Despite competition from JJB and Sports Direct, JD Sports has prevailed with strong growth in an increasingly sought-after market. The highly profitable business runs two divisions – sports fashion and outdoor. It also trades online and is expanding internationally. Its outdoor business was bolstered by the acquisition of Go Outdoors in 2017. Pentland Group, the owner of various sports brands including Speedo and Berghaus, has held a strategic stake in JD Sports since 2005.

JD Sports delivered another year of record sales, climbing 4.1% to £10.54bn on a reported basis for the 53 weeks to 3 February 2024 (FY2023). JD Sports chief executive Régis Schultz commented “In the period, we once again outperformed a challenging and volatile market with organic sales growth of 9%, broadly in line with our objective to deliver double digit growth, and organic sales growth in Premium Sports Fashion of 11%, ahead of our objective.”
