Restructuring firm Hilco, which acquired HMV’s debt on Tuesday, is the frontrunner to acquire the Jessops brand and is understood to be hatching plans to open branded camera concessions in HMV’s stores.

Hilco is thought to be in discussions with Jessops administrator PwC about acquiring the brand. Sources told Retail Week that should Hilco acquire HMV in full, it would consider opening Jessops concessions in the entertainment retailer’s stores.

Hilco acquired HMV’s £120m debt for £40m yesterday, putting the restructuring firm in control of the company, despite it still being in administration.

It is unclear if Hilco plans to acquire the full HMV business out of administration.

A PwC spokesman said: “We have a number of people interested in the Jessops brand but we won’t disclose individual parties.”

All Jessops 187 stores were shuttered just two days after the retailer collapsed on January 9, as first revealed by Retail-week.com.
