Department store John Lewis is poised to sign for a store at Westfield London as part of the shopping centre’s £1bn expansion.
John Lewis will decide at a board meeting next month whether it will open its fourth store in the capital at Westfield London.
The shopping centre has outlined planning permission for a £1bn scheme to extend the centre with 550,000 sq ft of retail, 1,500 homes, restaurants and offices, The Telegraph reported.
The new shop would be John Lewis’ first west London store. It follows the opening of a store in Westfield Stratford City in 2011, which was its first new London store for 20 years.
John Lewis also has stores in the capital on Oxford Street and in Brent Cross shopping centre. It also operates its Peter Jones store on Sloane Square.
The retailer has held talks with property developers Hammerson and Westfield to potentially anchor the planned shopping development in Croydon, south London it is understood.
John Lewis has 39 stores and managing director Andy Street ultimately aims to grow the store portfolio to 60 shops.
The retailer is developing new stores in Birmingham and York and is eyeing openings in Guildford and Manchester.
