Sales at department store group John Lewis rose 15.5% last week to £52.5m, spearheaded by fashion which was ahead by 20%.
John Lewis head of operational support Chris Hooper said product newness and new brands were behind the clothing performance in the period to August 7.
Sales of home products rose 17% and the electricals and home technology category was up 8.4%.
Hooper said there had been “significant” footfall in stores, particularly last Saturday. Online sales were up 33% and it was a “record week” for click and collect.
Sales at sister grocery chain Waitrose climbed 10.3% to £89.6m. Shops in seaside resorts continued their “strong run” as they benefited from holidaymakers’ spending.
