John Lewis has stated its intention to chase the “hound pound” with the launch of a new pet range.
The department store has introduced its first ever collection of bedding, toys, gifts and accessories for dogs and cats.
The 253-piece range has been launched after pets and pet accessories frequently appeared as one of the most searched-for terms, despite not being sold by the retailer until now.
The total pet market is worth £2.7bn, with accessories being valued at £500m, and has grown by 18% over the last five years, according to Mintel. Despite the tough economic climate 42% of owners still spoil their pets.
John Lewis buyer Louise Angell said: “Our customers love their pets and we have responded to their call by bringing together one of the most inspiring and compelling ranges of pet products on the high street. We hope customers enjoy our new take on re-‘tail’ therapy.”
The department store worked with Dogs Trust to develop the range.
