Lakeside launch is Mothercare's first of 60 stores

Maternity specialist Mothercare embarked on its most ambitious expansion programme in a decade with the opening of an out-of-town store at Lakeside, Thurrock.

The shop is the first of 60 stores planned over the next five years, as part of a long-term growth strategy being driven by Mothercare chief executive Ben Gordon.

Commanding 9,000 sq ft (835 sq m) of space, the shop offers Mothercare's full range of products, and takes the total number of out-of-town stores up to 69.

Gordon said: 'This project has been delivered on time and on budget, and represents our first steps in delivering Mothercare's long-term growth plans.'
