Laura Ashley finance director David Cook has resigned.

Cook will be leaving on December 5 to pursue other opportunities.

He will not be replaced on the board, and his responsibilities will be covered by chief financial officer and company secretary Rebecca Navarednam.

Cook was with Laura Ashley for nine years.

The homewares and fashion retailer has been suffering amid the downturn.

In September, while Laura Ashley revealed its profit before tax and exceptionals had increased 13 per cent to£4.5 million, its like-for-likes slipped. In the 26 weeks to July 26, 2008, like-for-like sales across all categories fell 8.1 per cent, although total sales climbed 7.3 per cent.
