Tech Guys head of marketing Tim Fairs said it was selling more than 1,000 Tech Friend packages a week during peak trading around the end of November.
DSGi group chief executive John Browett, who took the helm early last month, is keen to put technology services at the heart of his strategy to revive the ailing group’s fortunes.
The retailer, which runs the Currys and PC World chains in the UK, warned that profit forecasts for its full year would be missed by between£40 million and£50 million. Comparable store sales were flat at the UK electricals division, but plummeted 10 per cent at the computing arm. Extensive promotions pushed group margin down 0.3 per cent.
The Tech Friend packages comprise a monthly or annual subscription to PC support services and prices vary from£9.99 a month to£89.99 a year.
Fairs added that sales of the in-store and remote service had been strong since its launch in November. “It was one of our best-selling services by a long stretch,” he said.
Tech Guys, has eight standalone branches and is in 165 UK PC World stores.
