La Bourdonnaye joins the retailer from leading luxury business LVMH, where he was president of its Christian Lacroix fashion subsidiary for four years. Before joining LVMH, he held senior brand management, retail and marketing roles at L'Oreal, Pepsico and Disney.
Liberty chairman Richard Balfour-Lynn said: 'La Bourdonnaye brings a wealth of international brand management and development experience to the business at a time when our Liberty of London luxury brand is poised to expand dramatically. His proven track record will help establish Liberty of London as a major global brand as we aim to develop our range both at home and internationally.'
La Bourdonnaye said: 'This is a fabulous opportunity to build on the highly successful launch of the Liberty of London brand and take it to the next stage of its development. I am excited by the prospect of working for a business with the history and reputation for cutting edge design that Liberty has gained over the past century.'
Previous chief executive Iain Renwick left the retailer two weeks ago. The company said that in future, the focus would be on expanding its Liberty of London brand, which called for a different approach and style of leadership.
The retailer reduced its pre-tax loss to£2.2 million for the year to December, compared with£4.4 million the previous year. And like-for-like sales were£44 million, compared to£42.5 million the year before.
