Lidl is to replace its point of sale software and other store systems across its stores in 20 countries with a system from German software provider GK Software.
The discount supermarket already uses a version of the software supplier’s DOS-based point of sale software that has been in place since the late 1990s.
Lidl will be completely replacing this legacy system with GK Software’s current Java-based application GK/Retail. In addition, it will roll out replacement software for the store’s background systems and also store management.
Lidl has more than 9,000 stores across Europe, with about 500 in the UK.
A spokesman from Lidl UK was unable to comment on when the systems would be introduced to the UK, or the benefits they would bring to the business.
The supplier said that the EPoS system is run on more than 50,000 tills across 20 European countries and the US, and that it is able to run on a wide selection of EPoS hardware platforms.
