The luxury furniture retailer launched its web site in April last year and forecast web sales of£500,000. Managing director William Landale said online sales have exceeded expectations and are now likely to hit£2.3 million for the 12-month period. He said: “We did a lot of homework on fulfilment before we launched and both our furniture and accessories divisions are delivering great sales.
“Like-for-like group sales are flat, but it is difficult to judge because of cannibalisation. We predict that about 50 to 70 per cent of online sales would have gone through the stores if we hadn’t had the site.”
Lombok will push ahead with store expansion, opening about four to six each year. Its latest shop opened at Islington in north London last week. Landale expects growth of between 30 and 40 per cent on last year’s revenue of£11.6 million.
* Upmarket furniture retailer Smallbone was expected to report profits in line with forecasts as Retail Week went to press. Chief executive Charlie Smallbone said six showrooms will open in the next financial year and overseas markets such as China and Hong Kong will be explored.
