Most transport links in and around the capital were in working order for the morning rush hour and the majority of the city's major office employers confirmed that they were expecting staff to come to work as normal.
However, with authorities still advising people to avoid travel to London unless necessary, tourist and visitor numbers are expected to be significantly down today and across the weekend.
For the most part, London's major department stores closed at lunchtime or by early afternoon yesterday and, with theatres cancelling performances last night, the West End was extremely quiet in the evening. Customer traffic monitor SPSL said shopper numbers in central London were down 77 per cent.
Most analysts were today predicting that the attacks would have only a short-term impact on those retailers heavily reliant on central London trading, while expectations of an interest rate cut at next month's Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee have increased.
