Carl Friedrik, a premium travel goods brand, has opened its first-ever standalone store on 27 Regent Street.
The flagship showcases a range of suitcases, backpacks, wallets and other leather goods in a room equipped with draped curtains, artwork and mirrors to give a “luxurious atmosphere”.
The store spans 5,000 sq ft but is only currently trading on the first floor, which is 2,000 sq ft.
The space aims to act more like a gallery than a store, as it showcases each product individually with the information on price, weight and size displayed next to the item.
Instead of tills, shop assistants can place orders via handheld devices which are then brought up to customers or delivered directly to their homes.
Carl Friedrik co-founder Niklas Oppermann told Retail Week Regent Street is a great location for the brand’s first physical store due to its premium style and the street attracts “tourists, locals, and workers”.
The brand already operates inside department stores such as Selfridges and Harrods. Oppermann said he would consider opening more standalone stores in other major cities if the London launch goes well.
The business has closed its first investment round, raising £1m to fund further investment in design, development, manufacturing and retail.
Co-founder Mattis Oppermann said: “The launch of our first physical flagship store has been a goal for many years.
“We have worked through a meticulous design process to reflect our ethos of quality and timelessness. It’s an exciting time for the brand and our customers alike.”
