Bunnings owner Wesfarmers unveils its half-year results this week and should give an indication of how its transformation of Homebase is going.
The Australian retail giant, which snapped up Homebase last year, lamented the DIY chain’s “poor and confusing” offer when it updated last August.
Bunnings has made moves to change this, introducing more hard DIY products and lowering prices. It even opened its first UK Bunnings Warehouse fascia in St Albans earlier this month.
Despite these changes, we’re not expecting any dramatic jump in sales.
Converting Homebase’s soft furnishing-focused chain to Bunnings hard DIY offer is a major undertaking that may take some time to get right.
Valentine’s Day
We’ve also got the most romantic day of the year coming up tomorrow. Last year, Visa Europe reported record Valentine’s Day spend which retailers hope will be replicated this year. Retailers from Hotel Chocolat to Ann Summers will be looking get lucky this Valentine’s Day.
Top 50 retailers revealed
Meanwhile, Retail Week unveils its annual list of the UK’s top 50 retailers by sales for the 2015/16 financial year this week.
Fashion giants Inditex and Asos enter the list for the first time and there’s notable movers among the top ten retailers. Tune in tomorrow morning to see the list in full.
