The Hercules Unit Trust has joined forces with Development Securities to plan a major extension to its Broughton Shopping Park at Flintshire, north Wales.
A planning application has been lodged for a 197,000 sq ft (18,300 sq m) extension at the 297,000 sq ft (27,590 sq m) park. Marks & Spencer has signed up to anchor the new phase with a full-range store, taking a long lease subject to planning.
The extension will comprise a new 90,000 sq ft (8,360 sq m) two-storey M&S store, a 26,600 sq ft (2,470 sq m) extension to the existing Tesco superstore, and a 55,000 sq ft (5,110 sq m) retail parade. The M&S store will be linked to the existing shops at mezzanine level. Another 500 car parking spaces will be added to the 2,200 at the park.
Pillar Property director Mark Stirling said: 'Securing M&S is a significant illustration of the success of the Broughton Shopping Park.'
