The retailer topped the UK-wide poll of 15,000 shoppers, aged from 12 to 74. Female shoppers also named it their favourite shop. Broken down into age groups, M&S ranked top for females aged 35-54 and 55-plus, as well as for males of aged 55 and over. This illustrates that the retailer is still winning the hearts of customers, if not their wallets.
M&S marketing director Steven Sharp says that bringing customers back in-store is about reminding them M&S is special. 'What used to be a given, we now have to remind people about,' he remarks.
Other retailers in the top three were Asda and Tesco, whose broad product offerings and value propositions have propelled them to the forefront of customers' minds. Find out who else made the top 25 in this week's special report, Top of the stores, which will appear in the May 27 edition tomorrow.
