Electronics retailer Maplin has unveiled a new store design in its latest outlet in Blackpool, and enhanced its product range to include a greater selection of consumer technology products. As well as selling popular gadgets such as MP3 players, hi-fi separates and personal stereos, the retailer has entered the mobile phone market for the first time, selling a range of cross-network handsets. If the 8,000 sq ft (745 sq m) pilot store proves successful, the new interior and product range will be gradually rolled out across the 85-strong chain. The Blackpool store is larger than a typical Maplin outlet, and features new testing areas for electrical products.
