Developer Westfield insists that the Olympics has had a “positive impact” on its west London complex in contrast to this week’s footfall figures for the region.

Westfield said that traffic was up week-on-week at the Shepherd’s Bush centre.

A spokesperson said: “The shopping centre is continuing to attract high shopper numbers despite the majority of sporting events occurring in the East End and huge crowds visiting our other centre Westfield Stratford City.”

The news is in contrast to data specialist Experian’s figures which revealed that footfall has slumped since The Games began, falling 12.4% week-on-week in the West End and west London on Saturday. Shopper numbers were down 4.5% year-on-year on Monday and Tuesday in west London.

However, Westfield said that luxury shopping was holding up  “relatively well” at the centre.

The developer has increased trading hours across both London sites by up to 30% during the Olympics to take advantage of the influx of visitors.

However, Westfield Stratford City has been closed to non-Olympic attendees from 10.30 to 5.00 today and tomorrow.
