Robson's appointment follows the departure last September of chief financial officer Martin Clifford-King, who presided over the furniture retailer's ill-fated multi-million pound supply chain systems revamp. The IT project was beset by problems, forcing the retailer to cut jobs as it struggled to minimise the impact of the disruption on its supply chain. As a result, Clifford-King left, along with operations chief Gordon MacDonald.
Robson, who has no previous retail experience, starts in April, when he will take over from interim chief financial officer Shaun O'Callaghan. He joins from international industrial group Delta, where he held the post of financial director. Before that, he had various financial roles at chemicals firm ICI and was manager at Price Waterhouse (now part of PriceWaterhouseCoopers).
MFI chief executive John Hancock said: 'We are looking forward to Mark joining MFI. He brings a wealth of hands-on financial experience and we expect him to play an important role in the business.'
