The planned strikes are in response to the proposed closure of three UK distribution premises. Members of the Transport and General Workers Union (T&G) and the GMB voted for a stoppage last week.
While the unions have not yet called off the strike, Morrisons hopes to avert any action by agreeing to joint national bargaining.
T&G national officer Brian Revell warned: 'This is a positive move but very much a first step in what could be a long process.'
The talks are aimed at preventing a three-day walkout from Friday and a six-day stoppage from September 29. However, union officials said no decision regarding the strike would be taken until after tomorrow's meeting.
