Department store group Debenhams has laid claim to being “the first on the high street to offer a complete mobile package across all mobile technologies” after launching a mobile-enabled site.
The retailer said the site complements its app for iPhone, Android and Nokia and iPhone app for its Beauty Club loyalty scheme, and that it now has a mobile offer suitable for every type of handset available.
Debenhams.com director Simon Forster said: “Mobile continues to form a large part of our digital strategy, as an area which shows no sign of slowing down.
“We have seen a clear demand for shopping on the go. The addition of the m-site to our mobile offering means that no customer is excluded.”
The retailer said that traffic to its website from mobile phones increased by 225% in the year to August 2011.
In the first six months of operation, Debenhams’ iPhone app was downloaded over 500,000 times and generated sales of more than £1million.
