A brand new, independent supermarket chain is to open its first store in Warrington.
Asco is another newcomer hoping to capitalise on Woolworths’ demise by opening an 11,000 sq ft supermarket in the former Woolworths site on Sankey Street.
There are plans to add 11 stores in the North West by next summer and reach 30 within three years, creating up to 3,000 jobs.
Using the strapline, ‘The Real Alternative’, Asco assures excellent value for money with owners keen to build relationships with local suppliers.
Asco managing director Dave Laney said: “We plan to offer customers an alternative when shopping for their daily essentials which will give them a refreshing and pleasant change”
Laney has found retail outlets in prime positions thanks to the recession he added: “It gives a start up business like Asco the chance to establish a foothold in this marketplace.”
Laney formerly worked with retailers including WH Smith and Mothercare.
