High street off-licence Oddbins is suffering from a shortage of wine after French customs officials impounded stock following the collapse of its shipping company.
Many of the retailer’s 132 stores were under supplied after one of the biggest wine shippers, Anglo Overseas, collapsed in January.
The supplier was since bought out of administration and resumed trading but Oddbins suffered when French officials impounded stock while the legalities were completed.
According to The Telegraph, Oddbins boss Simon Baile said the company had planned to clear out stocks following the acquisition but Anglo’s collapse had accelerated the process.
He said the retailer had experienced a robust Christmas, with trading in line with the previous year following strong Champagne sales, which were up 7 per cent.
