Furniture and interiors retailer Oka recorded EBITDA of £53,000 in the calendar year to December 31, 2008, compared with a loss of £1.03m the year before.

Oka’s operating loss was reduced by £947,000 from the previous year.

The retailer — which is run by chief executive Annabel Astor, the mother-in-law of Conservative Party leader David Cameron — reported an 18.8% hike in turnover to £14.6m.

Online sales rose by 30% compared with 2007, and Oka increased its margin by 4.4% in the period.

Oka opened two new stores last year, in Saffron Walden, Essex, and Broadway in the Cotswolds.

Astor said the retailer had created an “adaptable, resilient business, even in these tough times” and added Oka has development projects “both in the UK and overseas”.

The retailer, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, opened its 13th store in Harrogate, Yorkshire, this month.
