Office expects 10 per cent of its revenue to be generated online by the end of the year after introducing technology to up its online conversion rates.
Working with content delivery network Akamai to improve the customer experience and manage visitor peaks on the site, the shoe retailer has increased online orders by 20 per cent.
Office head of e-commerce Paul Doeman said that the immediate sales increase once the Akamai system went live just before Christmas showed that slow response times on the site had been putting customers off.
He said: “This suggests that previously customers were, at certain times, leaving our website or were unable to complete a transaction due to high traffic levels.”
The retailer is also interested in how Akamai’s US retail customers have introduced web kiosks in stores and Doeman hopes this will be part of Office’s long-term strategy.
