Kenyatte Nelson, non-executive director at the British Retail Consortium and former chief brand officer at N Brown Group, will join the Co-op this month as chief membership and customer officer.
Nelson will be responsible for the Co-op’s membership, marketing and brand strategies, including supporting the brand’s presence at music festivals across the UK.
He is also due to work on the naming rights partnership with Co-op Live Arena based in Manchester City Centre, which is set to be the largest indoor entertainment arena in the UK when it opens at the end of this year.
Nelson has been in the industry for 20 years, 13 of which he spent managing national and international marketing for brands across Procter & Gamble. He has also spent time in leadership roles at Shop Direct and fashion retailers Missguided and N Brown Group, where he was most recently chief brand officer.
Co-op chief executive Shirine Khoury-Haq said: “Kenyatte brings with him a huge amount of marketing, digital, customer and brand experience – he will be a huge asset to our Co-op Group as he leads our membership, marketing and customer activity and we are delighted to have him join our operating board.”
On his appointment, Nelson said he “could not be more excited”.
He added: “It is a values-driven organisation that touches and improves the lives of millions of people, and I look forward to working with Shirine, the operating board and the rest of the team to build on the great work that is already happening across the group.”
