Costa Coffee has announced a pay hike for employees across its 1,520 stores, making this the third pay rise the coffee chain has offered in the last 12 months.
Starting April 1, all team members at Costa Coffee stores will receive an hourly pay hike of between 6.1% and 7.3%.
The base pay for baristas will increase from £10 per hour to £10.70 per hour, a 14% increase from an hourly base pay of £9.36 last year.
The hourly pay for more experienced team members called barista maestros will increase from £10.53 to at least £11.23 depending on location and role.
Members can earn an extra 20p and 50p per hour once they complete an introductory training course, taking the hourly pay to at least £10.90 for three-quarters of the staff.
The pay rise is part of Costa Coffee’s total annual investment of £12m. The coffee chain said it would now be awarding its staff a bonus in the form of direct payment as opposed to vouchers.
Team members also get a 25% to 50% discount across the menu, along with free drinks while on shift.
Nick Orrin, interim managing director for the UK and Ireland, said: “Our expert baristas are at the heart of our business and the communities we serve, and we are proud to be rewarding their amazing work. This increase reflects everything they continue to do for our customers to make their day that little bit better.
“We continue to live in uncertain times, but we are passionate about putting our teams and communities first. By always investing in our stores and our teams, we can give everyone a little boost each time they step inside their local Costa Coffee.”
