Tesco group chief strategy and innovation officer Tony Hoggett has left the grocer.
Retail Week can reveal that Tesco’s chief strategy and innovation officer Tony Hoggett is leaving the business to take a new role in the retail sector after more than 30 years with the grocer.
Chief executive Ken Murphy announced that Hoggett was leaving the grocer in an internal note sent to staff today and seen by Retail Week.
“I wanted to let you know that Tony Hoggett has decided to leave Tesco,” Murphy said.
“Tony’s career in Tesco has spanned over 31 years, during which time he has worked in various roles, most recently as group COO and chief strategy and innovation officer.
“Tony has made an incredibly valuable contribution over these years and I wish him the very best for the future.
“We will announce succession plans in due course.”
A source with understanding of the situation said Hoggett had been offered and had accepted another role in the sector, but wouldn’t confirm where.
Hoggett first joined Tesco in 1990, serving in a number of senior leadership roles across the UK and Asia.
In 2007, he was made vice-president of the retailer’s South China business, as well as president for North China.
He was then made chief operating officer for Tesco Kipa in Turkey.
In 2011, Hoggett returned to the UK as Tesco’s managing director of superstores before joining the leadership team as retail director in 2014.
He was promoted to chief operating officer in 2016 and chief executive officer of Tesco Asia the following year.
