Game’s senior vice president of esports and founder of its recently offloaded Multiplay acquisition Craig Fletcher will step down from his role this month.
Fletcher’s departure from Game comes shortly the retailer sold Multiplay to Unity Technologies for £19m, which he founded 20 years ago and the specialist retailer acquired in 2015.
Fletcher has acted as senior vice president of esports since 2016 and will be succeeded by Andy Dopson, who is currently head of the retailer’s Belong division and gaming zones.
Dopson’s remit will be expanded to head of esports and Belong. He will continue to report to chief executive Martyn Gibbs.
Fletcher will formally exit the retailer at the end of this year but will continue to support the development of its esports division.
Gibbs said: “I’d like to personally say a massive thank you to Craig for the energy, fun and vision he has brought to our business, and of course for the support and friendship that will continue way beyond today.
“We are making good progress with our Belong, esports and competitive gaming strategy.
“Results from our Belong arenas and activities are encouraging, our arena competitive gaming tournament, Arena Clash, is now fully operational and the recently announced partnership with Activision for Call of Duty: World League at Insomnia demonstrates our unique ability to deliver through all elements of esports and competitive gaming.”
