John Browett has stepped down as Monsoon Accessorize’s chief executive to be replaced by financial director Paul Allen on an interim basis.
Monsoon said Browett has decided to leave the role in order to “pursue other career opportunities.” Retail Week understands Browett is not in the frame for the high profile Morrisons chief executive job.
Browett was appointed as chief executive at Monsoon in 2013 after his infamously short stint at Apple. He was at the technology giant for just six months before parting ways with the firm.
Before Apple Browett made his name at Dixons where he led a root and branch turnaround of the electricals retailer.
Allen will become Monsoon’s interim chief executive with immediate effect. It is thought that Monsoon is seeking a permanent chief executive with extensive fashion experience.
Allen first joined the retailer as financial director in early 2013. He already has experience of leading a fashion retailer. He is a former Jacques Vert chief executive.
Peter Simon, founder of Monsoon Accessorize, said: “We are fortunate to have such a strong leader in Paul, who has a broad experience of retail, international and e-commerce operations, all of which are integral to our growth. We would like to thank John for his hard work over the past two years and his success in building a strong team to take the business forward.”
Browett said: “I have enjoyed my time at Monsoon. This is a tremendous business and I wish Paul and the team every good fortune.”
