Rami Baitiéh: ’I’m very pleased to welcome three outstanding retailers to the Morrisons leadership team’

The grocer has appointed Lidl chief operating officer Matt Heslop as its director of convenience and wholesale, Asda vice president of customer Matt McLellan as its group data and media director, and Bruno Lebon, Carrefour executive director of supermarkets and hypermarkets as group trading director – non-food.

Heslop was at Lidl for 20 years, and begins his new role in early March, while McLellan will begin the newly created role later this year, following a five-year stint at Asda where he was responsible for the design and launch of its rewards programme.

Lebon is set to be working closely with Andrew Staniland who started in early February as group trading director. The retailer describes Lebon as “one of the most experienced supermarket retailers in Europe”, with a 39-year career at Carrefour.

The new appointments come alongside two promotions at the retailer, the formal appointment of Martin Dawson as group retail director, following his appointment as interim operations director in February, and the promotion of Charlotte Exell to online director – now taking full responsibility for the Morrisons online offer.

All three new hires will report directly to chief executive Rami Baitiéh.

The retailer also noted that Rachel Eyre, chief customer and marketing officer, would return to Morrisons on March 3 from maternity leave.

Morrisons chief executive Rami Baitiéh said: “I’m very pleased to welcome three outstanding retailers to the Morrisons leadership team and to warmly welcome Rachel back from her maternity leave. All the new joiners have exceptional records in their fields and bring deep experience, a history of delivering growth and a clear customer focus.

“As Morrisons continues its re-invigoration and growth, their skills and their passion for the customer will make them a powerful addition to our team.

“Martin Dawson has made a significant impact in his new role over the last year, and I am delighted to confirm him in the key role of group retail director. And Charlotte Exell has played a vital part in the recent growth of our online business and I’m confident that under her leadership, Morrisons will go from strength to strength.”
