Former Woolworths boss Tony Page has been appointed as chief executive of The Original Factory Shop.
Page, who also formerly ran Asda’s non-food business, will replace Angela Spindler in the role as she departs to take the helm at catalogue fashion retailer N Brown.
Chairman of The Original Factory Shop David Williams said: “I am delighted that Tony is joining as chief executive and we look forward to welcoming him to the board. Tony has extensive and relevant experience within UK retail and we are confident that he will successfully accelerate the company’s ambitious growth plans as we continue to invest in new convenience department stores, serving many small communities across the UK.
“On behalf of the Board, I would like also to thank Angela Spindler for her hard work and significant contribution to the business. During her tenure, Angela led the company’s successful expansion programme, establishing its robust financial position and developing an excellent platform for future growth. We wish her well for the future.”
Page worked for Asda for 12 years until 2006 when he joined Woolworths as commercial and marketing director. He was working for the retailer when it collapsed in 2008.
Page has also previously run pharmacy chain Lloydspharmacy and most recently took up an interim role at online cycling retailer Wiggle to help it expand in the UK and abroad.
Page said: “Value and convenience retail are both becoming increasingly attractive to the UK consumer, as evidenced by their growing share of market. I am excited by the opportunity to capitalise on The Original Factory Shop’s unique retailing position, whereby customers can access quality brands at factory shop prices, to expand the Company’s foothold across the UK whilst also increasing earnings growth. I look forward to working with the team.”
The 184-store Original Factory Shop chain is owned by Duke Street Capital, which is understood to be preparing for a sale of the retailer in the future.
It is understood that Page was placed at The Original Factory Shop by headhunter Clarity Search.
