With annual UK sales of £1.6bn, Poundland is the clear market leader in one of the fastest-growing segments of UK retailing. Its acquisition of rival 99p Stores led to consolidation across the single-price retail sector, while its main rival Poundworld closed down in 2018. Although it has been expanding its multi-price offer, Poundland continues to also lean into its eponymous £1 price point to help consumers amid rising costs.
