A fight broke out on Twitter this week among the pound shops, over the hugely controversial subject of batteries.

In a dig at its rivals, one customer tweeted Poundland about its batteries, saying: “They are really good. Unlike the ones your rivals sell!” Poundland threw down the gauntlet, replying: “We have rivals? Are you sure?! Not those 99p folk, surely…” In a last-minute comeback, 99p Stores challenged Poundland, saying: “Scuse me. We are in the room you know. And our Panasonic batteries are fabulous, I’ll have you know.”

It’s a good job Duracell batteries were not involved or the fight would have gone on and on.
