Upmarket grocer Waitrose continued its good run with sales up 11.5% against strong comps in the week to 12 December.
Premium food is leading the way for Christmas, with orders for Waitrose’s three bird roast up by 87% and orders for dry aged bronze birds doubling year on year.
“Consumers are opting for more extravagant fare than last year,” said personnel director Ailsa Emerson.
Fish and beef also did well, as did horticulture with premium bouquet sales up 29%. WaitroseDeliver’s online sales were up 83% on last year.
