Retail entrepreneur Steve Cochrane is hunting a top-notch restaurateur to run the eaterie in Psyche, his innovative Middlesbrough department store.
Cochrane has held informal discussions with well-known food names in the Northeast, including the McCoys - founders of the Tontine restaurant and suppliers of upmarket railway snacks to GNER - and the owners of Newcastle's Barluga. No deal has yet been struck.
Cochrane aims to open Psyche's restaurant in December, and it will be accessible out of hours via a specially constructed external lift.
He said it has been difficult to woo big catering names to Middlesbrough, but is convinced there is an 'amazing opportunity' to be gobbled up.
Psyche opened in April last year in the former Uptons department store.
