The comments above referring to “owner drivers” are ridiculous!
Tommy Morris owns and manages his own business in this sector as do the Arora brothers at B&M, and they’re not doing too bad! Not to mention Malcolm Walker at Iceland – then there’s Farm Foods, I could go on, and on!
There’s a myth regularly touted by “managers” that entrepreneurs can’t grow businesses – this is a myth they like to extol to promote their continual employment!
If I had my money invested in this company and could choose who ran it – an extremely successful entrepreneur or a manager recently at the helm of a business that plunged into bankruptcy, I know who I’d choose!
