In terms of reigning in expansion, it is interesting that John Lewis opened in Westfield London (contractually unavoidable presumably) but is also choosing to continue to trade from their current branch in Brent Cross (which is not that far away) while Brent Cross shopping centre redevelops around it (redevelopment would surely impact trade).

I would have thought in the current climate that John Lewis (and Waitrose) might have chosen to exit Brent Cross when Brent Cross redevelopment works start in earnest later this year (even if only temporarily) or relocate to nearby sites (with a Waitrose linked to a John Lewis "At Home") branch. The Toys R Us across the road is now available as a location for a temporary shop...unless Waitrose is blocked from the site due to proximity of Tesco.
