Retail Property - Dual extension plan is on track at Junction One

Scottish-based outlet developer Guinea Group is pressing ahead with plans to extend Northern Ireland's first purpose-built factory outlet.

Planning permission has been lodged for additional floorspace at the developer's 145,000 sq ft (13,470 sq m) Junction One scheme in Antrim.

Two extensions, of 36,000 sq ft (3,345 sq m) and 66,000 sq ft (6,130 sq m), are proposed.

Guinea Group managing director John Drummond said: 'In view of the success of Junction One, we will be pushing to get an early resolution.'

The outlet scheme, which opened last week, has attracted more than 20 retailers new to Northern Ireland, including Mexx, Pilot, Kitsch 'n' Sync and Autonomy.

Drummond said Junction One is 100 per cent let, with the last handful of the scheme's 53 units expected to open over the next two months.

Planning consent is also being sought for a four-star hotel, multiplex cinema and additional leisure provision at the site.
