The value of retail sales jumped 1.5% year-on-year last month, according to the Office for National Statistics.
Retail sales volumes grew 0.9% in November.
Month-on-month, the value of retail sales fell 0.1% in November, while volumes were flat.
The ONS found that prices of goods sold increased by 0.5% year-on-year last month, driven by food price inflation.
The proportion of retail sales made online grew 1.4% month-on-month in November.
Barclays head of retail and wholesale Richard Lowe said: “November proved to be an uninspiring month, however, the final festive push is underway, with many retailers extending opening hours to ensure they get every last penny through the door”.
