Signet has brought in Island Pacific to develop a custom merchandising system.
The project is expected to take three years and will provide a system enabling buyers to use their Web browser to find, select, contact and order from a pre-vetted list of suppliers.
Once an order is placed, it can be tracked and amended. After a purchase has been fulfilled, the supplier's invoice will be paid by accounts.
Future phases include electronic payments and visibility of supplier shelf stock, as well as collaborative planning.
The cost of the project was not disclosed.
