Iconic music retailer Rough Trade has revealed a strong Christmas performance and remains confident for 2011.
Sales at the independent music retailer increased 5% in the 10 weeks to January 1, across its two shops in Notting Hill and Brick Lane, London.
The retailer also sells online and has in the past indicated it is mulling opening more stores.
Rough Trade director Stephen Godfroy said: “We continue the success of recent years, despite what was undeniably a tough Q4 given the adverse weather conditions.
“Such a resilient performance is testament to our continually evolving and inspiring destination store appeal. Despite an impecunious tide casting many purchase decisions adrift, we look ahead to 2011 with great confidence and ambition.”
Entertainment multiple HMV revealed its sales were hit hard over the Christmas period, with UK & Ireland total sales falling 11.9% over the 5 weeks to January 1. HMV blamed challenging entertainment markets and also severe weather conditions.
