Clinton Cards revealed like-for-like sales rose 2.4 per cent at its eponymous chain and like-for-likes at its Birthdays fascia were up 2.6 per cent in the 26 weeks to January 28, despite a challenging market.
Interim group adjusted operating profit rose 21.1 per cent to£22.9 million, compared to£19.3 million last year.
Adjusted net profit soared 25.1 per cent to£20.6 million, compared to£17.2 million last year.
The retailer, which has more than 700 Clinton stores and about 350 Birthdays outlets, said it expects full-year profits to be in line with market expectations.
Clinton Cards chairman Don Lewin said: ‘As the leading UK specialist greetings card retailer, we are focused on continuing to develop and improve our product offering across the brands.
‘Although the high street continues to present some challenges, our ability to increase sales in our core product range demonstrates the benefits of our specialist knowledge and expertise in the greetings card market.’
The retailer said in the 11 weeks to April 15, which includes key shopping periods Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, like-for-like sales continued to show improvements across both fascias. At Clintons the increase was 2.7 per cent and at Birthdays like-for-likes rose 5.3 per cent.
