The index remained at 97.86 for August, which is the first month this year to show no change from the previous one.
The results mark the third time this year that Scotland's price index has been lower than the UK's overall index. Scottish Retail Consortium director Fiona Moriarty said: 'Following slight rises in the two months prior to July, consumers are enjoying low prices for the second consecutive month. After tracking slightly above the UK index since January, the Scottish index is now well below that of the UK.'
Following the traditional July Sales, prices in Scotland stayed low, as discounting spread over into August due to retailers holding end-of-range and final end-of-season promotions.
