Morrisons group manufacturing director Mark Harrison has said the grocer’s new ‘lab’ store in Preston creates a better shopping experience as the retailer takes its replenishment of the shop floor.
Harrison told Retail Week senior reporter Alex Lawson that the store’s back office corridors which allow shelves to be refilled from the back, as well as top stocking allowing ambient stock to be picked from above the shelves at night, have taken the clutter from the aisles.
He said: “We’ve added more value across the piece, real quality and a much better shopping experience for the customers by doing a lot of replenishment behind the scenes.”
“We’ve really opened the fresh aisle up. We’ve really leveraged our vertical integration in a way that we have not taken it to a level we have not taken it to before.”
