Tesco pilots 24-hour opening in London c-stores to cash in on Night Tube

The supermarket giant revealed it will pilot round the clock opening at seven more stores in the capital on Fridays and Saturdays to “increase convenience” for late night and early morning travellers.

Tesco said the changes will come into force tonight, to coincide with the launch of the Night Tube on the Victoria and Central lines.

It comes after research from global data management firm CACI revealed the London hot spots that are poised to benefit from the extended underground service.

Tesco’s Express stores in Gants Hill Ilford, Haven Green Ealing, Holland Park, Bayswater and North Acton Express will all open 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays.

Two Metro locations, on Cheapside and Dean Street, will open for 24 hours on Fridays and until midnight on Saturdays, when they will close owing to Sunday trading restrictions.

To mark the launch of the longer opening hours, Tesco is setting up hydration stations at the front of the stores this weekend.

Between 3am and 7am on both nights, store staff will be on hand to dish out fresh orange juice and bottled water to night workers and partygoers.

Tesco’s London convenience director, Martin Smith, said: “London is such a vibrant and exciting place to live, work and visit and the Night Tube provides people with a great way to experience the city at a time that suits them best.

“At Tesco we’re always looking for new ways to serve London’s customers whenever it is most convenient to them.”
