Danish lifestyle retailer Søstrene Grene is poised to break into Britain after agreeing a lease on its debut UK store in Nottingham.
The homewares business, which sells kitchenware, interior furnishings, home accessories, stationery, children’s toys and gifts, will launch at Intu Victoria Centre.
Søstrene Grene, which also operates stores in Spain, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Ireland, has agreed a 10-year lease on a 4,275 sq ft unit on the upper level of the shopping centre, close to House of Fraser.
The retailer was founded in 1973 by sisters Anna and Clara Grene. The name Søstrene Grene translates into English as ‘Sisters Grene’.
Søstrene Grene chief operating officer and head of retail expansion Bjørn Bach Eriksen said: “We’re excited to bring our concept to the UK and intu Victoria Centre, located in the heart of England, is a great place to start.
“We hope the store will be a big success and look forward to working with intu to further invest in our move to the UK.”
Intu development director Martin Breeden said: “It’s interesting that Søstrene Grene have chosen to make their UK debut in Intu Victoria Centre and not in London. This is a growing trend we’re seeing across our national portfolio.
“The successful refurbishment of Intu Victoria Centre and the strong demographics of Nottingham have no doubt played a huge part in that decision.”
Intu Victoria Centre, which boasts 976,400 sq ft of retail space, has recently undergone a £40m revamp to open up visibility around the mall, create enhanced shop frontages and install new ceilings and floors.
