Shopper traffic remained resilient last week, despite widespread rioting and looting during which retailers were targeted.
Footfall was down 1.5% week-on-week and 4% year-on-year, the Experian Retail Footfall Index showed.
Experian reported: “Whilst rioting impacted shopping patterns, most markedly in the London Boroughs, consumers have been quick to get back to business as usual.
“On Thursday and Friday consumers’ confidence returned and the index shows an improvement in shopper levels, down only 2.7% on last year. Retail parks remained unaffected - the index reports a decline of 0.7% compared to the same week last year.”
