Smyths Toys Superstores is an Irish toy retailer that also has a presence in the UK, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Smyths scooped up 93 former Toys R Us stores in the DACH region for just €61.6m in 2018, almost doubling its portfolio at the time. It managed to outlast its US-based competitor by opening stores in similar locations and significantly beating Toys R Us on price, although it is going toe-to-toe with online leader Amazon.
